Our Story

Vechten firearms began in 2021 after a career spanning 37 years as a police officer, I have dedicated my life to the pursuit of firearm proficiency and instructor excellence. Throughout my tenure, I received comprehensive firearms instructor training from prestigious agencies such as the National Rifle Association, the National Tactical Officers association, the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors, and United States Concealed Carry Association.

My certifications reflect a broad and deep expertise: basic and advanced handgun, basic and advanced shotgun, patrol rifle, tactical and advanced tactical shooting, home defense, and night fire instruction. Beyond firearms, I hold certifications in Active Shooter response, TASER use, and Use of Force, enabling me to provide a holistic approach to force and defense training.

Over the years, I have taught hundreds of police officers, ranging from academy cadets to seasoned professionals undergoing advanced training. Parallel to my law enforcement career, I have served as a criminal justice college professor for the past 25 years, shaping future generations of law enforcement and security professionals.

My experience extends into course development and design, crafting both basic and advanced tactical firearms instruction programs tailored for handguns, shotguns, rifles, night fire scenarios, and active shooter preparedness. These courses have been delivered to diverse groups including schools, colleges, and churches, accumulating hundreds of hours of instruction.

Raised in a firearms family, shooting has been a part of my life from an early age. I am an avid hunter and competitive shooter, proudly participating in the Can/Am police and fire shooting championships. My passion for firearms instruction has evolved continuously since my first instructor course in 1987, driving me to impart a fresh, safe perspective on proper firearms handling.

Whether training beginner or experienced shooters, I emphasize foremost safety, accuracy, foundational shooting skills, shooting on the move, advanced tactics, and home defense strategies. Additional options can also be tailored based on individual needs, always focusing on elevating proficiency and confidence through responsible firearm use.
